When matriarch Katie Daise visited OLT offices in 2021, she challenged OLT and two of her children to find a way to protect her property forever. The Beaufort County Rural and Critical Land Preservation Program was a great fit for her grant-funded easement because of its goal to protect waterways vulnerable landscapes on special places like St Helena. The easement permanently restrictions docks and development downstream from a Commercial Fishing Village, which provides public benefit for all those who fish and enjoy the waterway.
